In 2019, King County Executive Dow Constantine and Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan signed a ground-breaking Interlocal Agreement approved by the Metropolitan King County Council, Regional Policy Committee, and the Seattle City Council, creating a new King County Regional Homelessness Authority to oversee a coordinated and unified response to homelessness. The legislation marks unprecedented collaboration between governments.

The approval of the interlocal agreement marks the culmination of many months of work by city and county staffs, service providers, representatives of business and philanthropy, faith communities, advocates and leaders with lived experience of homelessness.
