MEASURING RESULTS, MONITORING PERFORMANCE, AND BUILDING ACCOUNTABILITY
Accurate, reliable data is a critical tool for service planning, advocacy, and preventing and ending homelessness. Because many variables affect homelessness and the situation is often changing, it is important to collect numbers and characteristics of those experiencing homelessness, as well as information about the experience of homelessness and service provision. These data are essential to understanding our system’s ability to meet the need and to identifying effective strategies for addressing the crisis.

How are we addressing the crisis?
A successful homeless response system implements the evidence-based practice of Housing First, and uses principles of racial equity, within a coordinated and regional response. Using the best available data to drive decisions, we are working with urgency towards making homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring.
Data in the homeless response system is collected through the King County Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
